Appointing the right customs agent to handle your customs formalities on your behalf is an important decision and can make all the difference to your business and the smooth crossing of your goods.
Why use an Agent?

The UK left the European Union (EU) on 31 January 2020 at 2300 GMT, although the UK is no longer a member of the EU we are in a transition period and continue to be subject to EU rules and remained a member of the single market and customs union until 31 December 2020. Therefore, we are now required to follow customs procedures and complete customs declarations for ALL goods moving to and from the UK.
Customs procedures now need to be followed and Import / Export declarations required for all movements in and out of the UK from 1 January 2021. It is vital that you ensure you and your EU partners have appointed a Customs Agent to handle new Customs and Safety and Security Declarations on both the UK and EU sides of the borders.
We at ACP understand how challenging and time-consuming customs formalities can be, which is why we have decided to offer customs clearance as an additional service.
Alongside our customs clearance service, we have created guidance explaining the requirements and processes involved to import and export goods as of 1 January 2021, as we want to ensure our customers are as prepared as possible. All the preparations we have undertaken have given us the knowledge and information required to offer our guidance on what our customers need to do to be ready.
Below is a basic list of requirements as a minimum, however additional information / documentation may be required, such as licences for example:
- Exporter and Importer details, including EORI numbers
- Description of goods
- HS Classification Code (Tariff Code / Commodity Code)
- Packaging details
- Weights, Gross and Net
- Sales Value and Currency for each type of goods
- Incoterm
- Country of Origin
- Customs Procedure Code
- Commercial Invoice and a Packing List
We work closely with our customers to understand their business needs, ensuring all declarations are completed with precision and in timely manner.
Achieved Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) Status
Only 3% of those that apply for AEO status are granted it first time, and only 5% of logistics companies that apply are granted AEO status. From the start of our preparations, to commencing the application process through to the final audits conducted by HMRC it took 1.5 years, and we are very proud to say that we were granted Full AEO status on our first attempt.
Our AEO status demonstrates that we maintain the highest standards of processes, procedures and security, ensuring the integrity of the supply chain for their customers at all times. As a ‘trusted’ company our customers will benefit from our Full AEO status even if they do not hold the status themselves.
